Creating space for the life you deserve

Closet Creativity, Littleton

Oh, I love a good closet makeover! Nothing feels quite as good as getting rid of clothing you haven’t worn in years, or finally cutting ties with those “goal” pants that no longer fit you, or your lifestyle. Saying goodbye to old clothes lifts a massive weight of your shoulders, frees up space to create a wardrobe that suits your current style, and gives you the energy to wear outfits that make you feel like a million bucks! Yes, please.

For this project, my client had been keeping items she no longer wore, because she had the space to do so. But just because you have extra space, does’t mean you need to fill it! Filling her closet with items she no longer wanted or needed created a feeling of heaviness and overwhelm every time she went to get dressed for the day. Fabric overload! Additionally, her closet felt cluttered because the shelf space was’t being utilized properly. Mismatched plastic hangers added to the feeling of chaos.

I started this project by working with my client to sort through her clothing. Everything she no longer liked or wore went directly into the donate bin. After the clothing, we sorted through various items she was storing in her closet (camera, electronics, pool day items, etc.) and found better homes for them in other areas of her home.

After the sorting, the real fun started: re-organizing her clothing into seasonal sections, daily items, shoe storage! Each new section was sorted by color and given a brand new velvet hanger. Replacing the mismatched plastic with matching velvet hangers not only looks and feels so much better, it is also much better for garments. The velvet diminishes the dreaded “hanger stretch”, and keeps clothing from slipping off the hanger onto the floor. Win win!

Her shelves were organized with daily items she wanted to have quick access to, as well as the shoes she wears on a daily basis. Nicer and specialty shoes were stored in shoe bins. I love the mini bookshelf I created for my client next to her jar of loose change. It gives her closet a warm, personal feel and reminds her of her favorite stories on the daily. My favorite part of this project? The space I created for my client to go shopping! She finally has an idea of the pieces she needs, what she likes to wear most, and where it will all go. Creating space for the closet she deserves? That is the BEST.
